Eisenkot: Israelis voted for change

ByAl Majlis Times staff

Opposition candidate Gadi Eisenkot said early on Wednesday that Israel 'chose change' after the Netanyahu era, and that he will seek to form a new government.

Eisenkot served as chief of staff of the Israeli army from 2015 to 2019 before entering politics, and now leads the opposition camp against Netanyahu.

His statement came as early results remained too close to show which side can assemble the required Knesset majority of 61 out of 120 seats.

His success in forming a government will depend on building a coalition of parties with very different outlooks, a familiar challenge in Israeli politics.
