Grossi: no sign Iran is rebuilding damaged nuclear sites

ByAl Majlis Times staff

IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi said there is no indication that Iran has tried to repair or rebuild its nuclear facilities damaged by US and Israeli strikes this year or last year.

Grossi's remarks come as the international community closely follows the fate of Iran's nuclear programme, after military strikes over the past two years hit key facilities, including sites long associated with enrichment activity.

The Vienna-based International Atomic Energy Agency verifies the nuclear activities of states party to the Non-Proliferation Treaty and has been led by Grossi since 2019. Its assessments carry particular weight because governments rely on them to judge risk and shape their positions.

Observers note that the absence of signs of rebuilding does not close the file: questions such as the fate of stored nuclear material, the return of inspectors to the sites and the prospects for renewed diplomacy remain at the centre of the debate.
